MHRP's international sites mark HIV Vaccine Awareness Day in their communities.

Makerere University Walter Reed Project - Uganda

"Let's Talk HIV Prevention"

Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP), with support from the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise commemorated HIV Vaccine Awareness Day (HVAD) at a round-table discussion – E’kimeza. Community members and leading and upcoming Ugandan scientists engaged in dialogue on issues surrounding HIV vaccines, microbicides and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). MUWRP's Lillian Mutengu and Radio Simba’s Dick Nvule moderated the event. Through MUWRP support, the discussion aired live on Radio Simba for the first hour.

Walter Reed Project - Kenya

Educational Talks: The Walter Reed Project (WRP) participated in HIV vaccine awareness talks in educational institutions in and around Kericho from 11 May to 17 May. 

Open House: WRP held an open house for local leaders and the public can learn more about research activities at WRP. The event will include poetry, art and music on AIDS vaccine development during the event

5K Fun Run and 10K Competitive Race: Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the first three men and women to complete the race. Ms. Caroline Kilel, the  Boston marathon Champion, and Kiprugut Chumo, the first African Medalist, participated in the event. Athletics Kenya South Rift Branch and the local Sports officer officiated the competition.

Soccer Match: WRP FC and Mau tea FC competed at the Kericho green stadium.

Speeches: Scientists and local leaders will present HIV prevention and HIV vaccine research information. The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation was expected to be the Chief guest.
