MHRP's Principal Deputy Director Jerome Kim is now the Director-General of the International Vaccine Institute
MHRP is proud to announce that our Principal Deputy Director, COL Jerome Kim, will be transitioning in 2015 to become the Director-General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), a Seoul-based non-profit devoted to research in vaccine development and delivery in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).
COL Kim will have spent more than 20 years with MHRP, including six years as its Principal Deputy Director. MHRP Director COL Nelson Michael said “this appointment to be the IVI Director-General is a testament to Jerome’s extraordinary abilities, singular accomplishments, and his passionate commitment to global health.” COL Kim will leave in early 2015 to lead this prestigious organization that is committed to providing affordable vaccines for neglected diseases in developing nations.
Michael added: “COL Kim’s scientific acumen has helped propel MHRP in the HIV research field, from his initial work in molecular immunopathogenesis in the 1990s to his stewardship of the process that led to the successful execution of the RV 144 trial to his pioneering concepts in early treatment in acute HIV infection.”
COL Kim formally retires from the U.S. Army on 30 June 2015 but will begin to make his transition to Korea in March 2015. He said, “I am honored by the opportunity to join IVI, and I look forward to working with the IVI team, partners, and donors to discover, develop, and deliver safe, effective and affordable vaccines for developing nations.”
Congratulations to COL Kim on his next very positive step in an already distinguished career in science, medicine, and public health.
