Tomáš Hanke is a Professor of Vaccine Immunology at the Jenner Institute, University of Oxford. He has devoted his entire professional career to the development of an HIV-1 vaccine, which has been underpinned by basic research into protective killer T cells. He uses iterative improvements of T-cell vaccine design (immunogen and delivery) informed in part by pre-clinical studies, but mainly driven by human data. He coordinates and supports a program of Experimental Medicine trials testing the candidate T-cell vaccines alone and in combination with other cutting-edge tools of HIV cure in the UK, US, Europe, Asia and Africa, where his partners and he enhance research capacity and infrastructure.
