holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from Makerere University and a MSc. Clinical Trials from the University of London/London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom. I have over twelve (12) years working experience in infectious diseases clinical research and in HIV prevention, care and treatment. I lead HIV vaccine development, remission, and cure research at MUWRP as principal investigator or co-investigator on research projects testing candidate HIV, Ebola, Marburg, and Bilharzia vaccines. I am the site principal investigator for an observational cohort study on HIV and other infections among high-risk individuals which is looking at incidence, viral and host dynamics among these populations. I am the holder of a research award from the United States National Institutes of Health, looking at improving cervical cancer prevention and precancer treatment among women living with HIV in Uganda. I am also the Co-principal investigator on a USAID award to the South Africa Medical Research Council which is leading a consortium of 8 countries and several researchers to develop a capacity for the discovery and development of a HIV vaccines in Africa (the BRILLIANT Consortium). I worked with the pharmaceutical sector in the United Kingdom where I earned experience in the processes and economics of developing and marketing safe, effective medical interventions including vaccines. Currently, I am the Deputy Executive Director at my organization since 2019 and serve as an Exco member on the Board of Directors. In this role I work with the Executive Management team to provide strategic, ethical, and effective leadership of the organization ensuring it attains its objectives. My research interests are in the field of infectious diseases research, emerging and re-emerging infections and research mentorship.
