MHRP
Dr. Jiae Kim, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Scientist in the Antigens and Immunology Section of the Laboratory of Adjuvant and Antigen Research (LAAR) led by Dr. Mangala Rao, in the US Military HIV Research Program (MHRP). Dr. Kim developed the HIV-1 virus capture assay which is a quantitative assay that examines both virus entry and replication and is utilized in the laboratory to assess the ability of sera/plasma and antibodies in their ability to inhibit HIV-1 virus capture and replication. In addition, Dr. Kim helped establish the humanized DRAG/DRAGA (NOD.Rag1KO.IL2RγcKO mice expressing HLA-DR0401 and HLA A2 molecules) mouse as a model for HIV-1 pathogenesis and for HIV-1 cure. More recently, Dr. Kim has worked on studies developing the Army Liposome Formulations (ALF) as a potent adjuvant for vaccines. Dr. Kim has managed several preclinical studies utilizing vaccines containing ALF, including ALFQ (ALF containing QS-21 saponin), in the context of HIV and SARS-CoV-2 in small animals and nonhuman primates to evaluate immune responses and duration of response. Dr. Kim earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology at Yale University.
